Probably the Most Bizarre Version of the Soviet Anthem

Music: Soviet Anthem (church bell version)

Song title: “Slaven,” a fusion of the word Slavic and the word slavyty (Ukr. to praise)

Lyrics & ideology: a mix of pan-Slavic theism, sovok, and communitarianism (reminiscent of Dmytro Korchynsky’s Bratstvo and Nataliya Vitrenko’s PSPU)

Key words: God Almighty, people, right of the people, Slavic Union, (instead of Soviet Union), freedom, resurrection, sun, Kyivan Rus, praise

To put it mildly, I haven’t seen anything more self-contradictory in a long time.

a bit strange,

something ridiculous,

a new ideology with roots in the Soviet ideology?

mean a further isolation of these countries...

Yes, it’s a highly eclectic and delusional niche of ideology that exploits Soviet mythology and emphasizes Eastern Slavic/Orthodox unity.

Now that Western Slavic nations have discovered their unity under the NATO-EU umbrella — and behind the Schengen Curtain — proponents of Eastern Slavic unity may actually use the "isolation argument" to their advantage.

In my dreams, I see Ukraine as part of the European club, but that vision may be more than a decade down the road.
