Ukraine and the Orthodox world celebrate Christmas on January 7.
On Christmas Eve (Sviaty Vechir), Ukrainians gather for Sviata Vecherya (Holy Supper), traditionally served with twelve dishes symbolizing the twelve apostles. (Learn more about the Ukrainian Christmas tradition here and here.)

Everything sounds and looks wonderful. I hope you enjoyed the celebrations.
I want to thank you for this post, for an odd reason. Simply, I was looking for the proper spelling of "Merry Christmas" in Ukrainian and your post was one of the first to come up. I was sending an e-mail to my grandfather, and wanted to add a touch of our heritage.
Because of this, I found your blog and have read a number of your recent posts. Keep up the good work, you have fans all over the world. :)
Thank you, Gabriela!
It was a reallllllly cold (-15C/5F) winter day:)!
Thank you, Don!
Keep in touch with your grandfather, remember your heritage, and learn more about Ukraine!:)
