Let me take the liberty — and the headache — to translate the refrain of this love song.
Russian singer Nikolai Baskov:
I’m not afraid to tell you that
I hate us to be apart
From dusk till dawn
I’ll be the one who needs your answer
On the spot
And I’m not afraid to insist
That your love for me persist
The woman in white you put up a fight
This heart of mine could not resist
Baskov: The most beautiful woman of Ukraine, dressed in white, Yulia Tymoshenko!By the way, Baskov campaigned for Yanukovych in 2004. He toured Ukraine with a squad of Ukrainian and Russian showbiz stars, on a road show that closely resembles Tymoshenko’s “With Yu❤kraine at Heart.”
Russian singer Alla Pugacheva: Nikolai Baskov and Yulia Tymoshenko!
Baskov: This was the dance of the year! I hope Ukrainians will remember it. I’ve never had such a luscious woman dressed in white. Pugacheva: Come on! Quit lying!
Baskov: By the way...
Pugacheva: Come on, come on...
Baskov: Yulia Vladimirovna, by the way, I’m single. [audience explodes with laughter]
Pugacheva: You know, quit kissing up please! We just made the Prime Minister feel good because — what, everyone’s having fun, dancing — and she’s working, working. Hahaha!
And here’s how Baskov addressed Orange rally-goers: “What are you waving your rusty flags for? Put them away and get the hell back to your America!”
Tymoshenko’s artistic license allows her to woo two distinct groups of people — Baskov fans and Orange Revolution vets — at the same time.
This time, as you can see, the Kremlin’s artistic license covers both Yanukovych and Tymoshenko.
This time, the Kremlin doesn’t put all its eggs in one basket.

Isn't there still a warrant out for Tymoshenko's arrest should she step foot into Russia?
I sent this to my friend in Ukraine, she replied "Why are you making me listen to this again? What have I ever done to you?((((("
The only thing weirder than Russian pop music is Ukrainian politics...
You seem to be famous!
I could not help smiling this morning when reading in my newspaper about "Taras, the relentless commentator of the Ukrainian political circus". See http://www.letemps.ch/Page/Uuid/54325d0e-0154-11df-85ae-714eb3841259%7C1 , second-last paragaph
The journalist is named Mathilde Goanec (?) and the piece - on the election, of course - does not bring anything worth underscoring.
If you think the Taras mentioned is the other one (Kuzio), PLEASE do't be offended!
Take care
Genia
John,
The case appears to have been closed but may be reopened should the circumstances so require. You know what I’m saying.
Agent Muu,
In Ukraine, Tymoshenko employs a motley crew of artists: Ruslana, Tina Karol, Ani Lorak (Ukraine’s ’04, ’06 and ‘08 Eurovision entries respectively).
Ani Lorak campaigned for Yanukovych in ‘04. And so did Iryna Bilyk and Natalia Mohylveska, perhaps the most outspoken endorser of Yanukovych in ’04:
“Let me repeat it again: I'll stay with my candidate till the very end. I'm not a bitch and I'm not a rat running from one place to another because it's worried and wants the next government to provide some, I don't know, benefits — the ones it can really provide.”
Genia,
Merci beaucoup for the tip!:)
I’m the Taras quoted in that article. I’m glad they published me!
Greetings from pre-election Kyiv!
