Secrets of Food Inflation Revealed!

Agriculture Minister Viktor Slauta delivers an impromptu workshop on the global economy, in which he struggles to put a fig leaf on Yanukovych’s phantom promise of “stability and prosperity.”

To tell you the truth, Asia. The Chinese have started consuming meat galore — not just rice — and this diverts resources and creates a tremendous demand. Second, the problem of global warming, or non-warming. Third, biodiesel fuel.

As Deep Throat put it, “Mr. Mulder, they’ve been here for a very long time.”:)

Any idea why Slauta omitted the subprime mortgage crisis?:)))

what? - u mean the "liquity crisis" that is earmarked for the reason behind rising inflation. I guess something else had to be used and xenophobia towards the East is a powerful tool as well as the "fuel vs energy" and "global warming" as pointing to the West.

Multi-vector approach.

Yeah, apart from the U.S. housing crisis, he should have also blamed it on astrology and planetary alignment:)!

Well, it could be worse.

They could be doing what they're doing in Russia.

To the extent that Russia has a higher GDP per capita, I’d say it’s already worse in Ukraine.

I just can’t square the officially reported 13 percent growth rate in meat production with the 13 percent inflation rate.

The Yanukovych Cabinet tried to fool with meat prices by dumping imports on the market in the runup to the election. Operation Enduring Food Prices failed miserably. As long as ProFFessor has such a remarkably strong grasp of the market economy, he can take his stabilnist and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

Meat production in Ukraine often turns into a money-losing business for producers. Often, they have no choice but to send their livestock to the slaughterhouse. That’s where resellers and retailers sink their claws into the steak. Their control of the value chain helps them make fortunes out of driving the cash-strapped producers bankrupt or near-bankrupt.

That’s the beef.

EUREKA!

Inflation is the result of Hungarian bugs!

Those little migranting "aliens" with their cheap cardboard suitcases without their passports and papers sneaking into the cornfields past the customs guards. And they refuse to learn the language!

ACTUALLY it is a VERY SERIOUS problem esp. as farmers simply do not have the money for pesticides. Although alot can be said for "organic" food when it occurs not through choice but poverty, and to watch one's hard work and livelihood die before one's eyes is soul destroying. Hopefully the drought wiped the critters out --- which would be the only positive light from the lousy weather over the growing season.

I just mentioned the story because I am surprised that no one has hit on the notion of blaming inflation on the "Hungarian aliens". (For ex. It's all a plot from the West, CIA backed, probably brought in Condoleeza Rice' briefcase, we never had this problem before, ...etc. (ROFL this is too easy!)

For the sake of stabilnist, Ukrainian farmers must be kept bankrupt, so that they will sell their land dirt cheap in the last round of grabitization.

And as for the bugs, I bet they came from those missile defense systems being deployed in Poland and the Czech Republic:)

secrets of food inflation - Chinese eat meat ...

well interestingly enough China is experiencing inflation and inc. in food prices which is making pork and meat too pricey to eat.

And the piece about Premier's visit to a poor family was spooky as it just echoes what PM Yanukovych and his spin people would do esp. the part about "preached Wen's visit “let the people live more comfortably” ...
