ProFFessor Quotes From ‘Montes-quieu’

This week, we celebrate a great victory for academic Ukraine.

To prove this point, I would like to quote from a famous French lawyer and Enlightener of the 18th century, Charles [pauses to study French] Montes-quieu:

When the legislative and executive powers are united in the same person, or in the same body of magistrates, there can be no liberty; because apprehensions may arise, lest the same monarch or senate should enact tyrannical laws, to execute them in a tyrannical manner.

Whew! He did it! What a relief for Montesquieu fans. Another exercise or two, and the legendary “Anna Akhmetova” may become a distant memory.

It's rather odd, to me, that he would be quoting something about separation of powers, given that he and his party were seeking to gather up all of the executive and legislative powers in themselves.

Good point, Elmer! In 2004, Montesquieu's Enlightenment was totally lost on our man. I bet he was into Machiavelli at the time. And I suspect he’s still “back to basics.”

That would explain why he had such a hard time spelling Montesquieu, obviously a new kid on the block to him. It’s hard to “quote” someone you don’t know that well.

Thankfully, his quote of the day did not include John Locke/Loch.

ROFL ROFL :))))))

"Whew! He did it!" ... can barely type for laughing. I never realized that Montesquieu had such a long pause in the middle re: pronunciation. Perhaps that is why I flunked French ;)))))

LOL!~

Taras you are a wonder and completely, totally kick-a** awesome!

Thank you.

Luida

PS I will by right by your side burning effigies of the Pres. if he completely botches up this opportunity while the PoR are on the run and dazed and confused. Tues. am. big day indeed - Tymo is coming!

Thank you, Luida!

I’m sure you did a lot better in your French class than this scene of Proffessor having trouble reading a name written in Ukrainian. I, too, studied French (a long time ago), so I had no right to miss this brilliant “Montes-quieu” opportunity.

As of 2:15 p.m. Kyiv time, Tymo failed to gain a majority due to a “technical error.” The Rada is taking a break. It is unclear whether there will be a re-vote.
