Yushchenko: Hands Off Chernovetsky? The Kyiv community — and you can trust me on that one — is capable of deciding who will be Mayor on its own, being guided solely by the law and election procedure. Therefore, when it comes to relieving one person or another of their duties, we should be guided solely by the law. Then we’ll have nothing left unspoken. Then we won’t have a feeling that legal concerns were dominated by political concerns, just because someone wanted to initiate this process…uh…to expedite it politically, only to end up having problems with the law of the land. When Parliament passes such resolutions, in my opinion, we should be guided by the law.
Mr. President, can you tell us what kind of "law" Mayor Chernovetsky has been guided by throughout his two years of office? Is that the "law" you support for the city that gave you so much support?
Do you believe that by following the law of “my enemy’s enemy is my friend,” you increase your chances of re-election?

The Pres. Secretariat brought up points of legality of new elections a couple of days ago but there has to new elections. And yes, it will have a BIG impact who is Mayor when Pres. elections come around.

Looks like Tymophobia — whatever the cost — carries the day in our President’s mind.
Last spring, he showed a lot more interest in the spirit of the law rather than the letter of the law.
Well, times change.
"This particular campaign promises to be particularly entertaining, largely due to the participation of the incumbent, Leonid Chernovetskiy, a man who must be one of the most eccentric and unpredictable mayors on the planet. His reign has often been coloured by a surreal mixture of the bizarre and the ridiculous, while his incoherent public appearances have long since become the stuff of local legend. In just under two years as mayor the man affectionately known as Lyonia Cosmos has spawned a thousand and one Internet joke sites and earned himself a place in Kyiv folklore, but most pundits expect that the coming vote may well spell the end for the capital’s Comedy Club mayor.
Chernovetskiy is nothing if not a wily fox, and so it would be foolish to assume that he will not be able to outwit his opponents and hoodwink the electorate once more, but at this stage it looks as though this may prove one hurdle too many for the great man.
Of all the other candidates to have currently declared an interest, Vitaliy Klitschko is the early favourite. Politically speaking, Klitschko is an independent Orange. He has spent the last two years learning the ropes within the Kyiv City Council and, if elected, carries enough weight to make a meaningful impact on the political balance of power within the country. This could have a welcome impact on the political landscape in general. After all, Kyiv may well be a Tymoshenko city, but it might not be such a bad thing to have a Western-leaning but politically independent figure in control of the capital. "

so far definitely going into the Mayoral race is Chernoco, Klitschko and who? Tomenko decided not to run. And BYuT has still to present their candidate right? And BYuT wants NUNS to support Chernoco? There is not alot of time for this election campaign at all.
Brodsky is throwing his hat into the Kyiv Mayoral race.

All it will do is split the vote.
Luida
Brodsky will get the boot in the race, and he knows it.
You’re right. His war plan is to siphon as many votes from BYuT as he can.
Even though some polls show Klychko as having a small lead over Chernovetsky, failure by the Oranges to agree on a joint candidate will boost the incumbent’s re-election chances.
And by the way, don’t miss the hilarious video I’m posting!
"failure by the Oranges to agree on a joint candidate will boost the incumbent’s re-election chances."
Chernoco has to hoping this is true as Turchynov may be heading into the mayoral race. Imagine Turchynov as Mayor of Kyiv. wow - every scheme etc. will be uncovered but perhaps not prosecuted. Though am surprised that as this is the first day of the campaign all the players are not lined up and out in the open - time is short.

Another entry into the mayoral race - Mykola Katerynchuk the leader of European party.
Luida
PS I agree with Katerynchuk's proposed changes that there be at least two rounds of voting and not just one. Will see if it gets passed if not the chances of Chernoco winning increase.
Luida, the Oranges’ going separate ways in a single-round election would be a bonanza for Chernovetsky.
It would be another lifebuoy for someone who is already on life support from Baloha.
The “clash of civilizations” within the Orange camp, in which both BYuT and NUNS view Kyiv as a springboard to the upcoming presidential campaign, may result in a Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact between the Secretariat of the President and the City Hall.
Uncovering a crime without prosecuting it can be just as good as covering it up. A zero-punishment policy simply perpetuates crime.
The fact that not a single high-profile crime has been prosecuted and punished speaks volumes about this country’s “one law for all.”
Did you hear that Justice Stanik’s coming back?
Saw something about Stanik's shame but opted not to read it - too depressing but hey, Piskun is coming back too right?
Gang's all here. :((((

It’s just another sign indicating that the likes of Rudkovsky have nothing to fear.
