9 Dead, 11 Hospitalized in Dnipropetrovsk Slot Machine Fire

Nine people died and eleven were hospitalized after an explosion set ablaze a slot machine outlet in Dnipropetrovsk at about 1:00 a.m. local time Thursday.

In this Channel 5 footage, three victims recall being covered up in smoke and struggling to find their way out.



Lives could have been saved had the emergency exit not been sealed. (Gambling with their lives, weren’t they?)

Local authorities have ordered all gambling operations and entertainment centers in the city closed pending investigation and inspection.

Chernovetsky: …to set up a patrol using the proceeds from the gambling business and, within three months, to destroy all the illegal slot machines.

Respondent: You can pay once in a month and you can pay ten times.

Chernovetsky: I’ll send the money they paid me for this lunch to my dear babushkas in the way of social security.

First, they sacrifice their grandchildren’s playgrounds and parks to the City Hall’s barbaric construction/zoning policies.

Second, they set the ground for a fourfold transport fare hike.

Third, they go without hot water for a few winter days.

Now toss out a few crumbs to them and do it all over again. That’s the plan.

Chernovetsky: I myself played gambling games when I was a kid. It was…uh…really exciting for me, and I didn’t realize that it sucks you in.
