Tymoshenko Sends Her Christmas Greetings

When 13 became her number on the ballot, she compared it to Jesus Christ and the 12 Apostles.

She believes in every one of us being a bovine believer in her holiness.

PM/presidential candidate Tymoshenko: My darlings, I cordially greet you with the bright holiday of Christmas! More than two thousand years ago, in Bethlehem, baby Jesus was born, the one who changed the world. The Lord came to earth and gave us hope, forgiveness and salvation. His New Testament became the firmest foundation on which our civilization was built. He gave us the main commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” And I dream that humanity will live by this exact rule that we got to know from childhood.

How on earth did you learn that rule in your childhood? Didn’t you grow up in the atheist city of Dnipropetrovsk in the ‘60s like I grew up in the atheist city of Kyiv in the ‘80s? Didn’t you marry the son of a Communist Party boss? (I didn’t.)

Yanukovych Sends His New Year/Christmas Greetings

If you live in the land of the “Ukrainian Bell Carol” but speak Russian only, he’s your man.

Presidential candidate Yanukovych: New Year and Christmas are again coming to our house — with goodness, with hope, with faith that we all will be better off. I know we can overcome the difficulties. We’ll find ways to happy and joyful. Our kids will be growing up healthy. There will be tranquility and abundance in our every family. Accord, peace and prosperity will again rule supreme in our state.

He forgot to mention one of his elixirs of tranquility and abundance:

• Paid Hr. 16.24 ($3.12) for a 184 sq m apartment in 2003;
• Traded it for a 384 sq m apartment (using his mother-in-law's ID) in 2003;
• Sold it for Hr. 33,416,350 ($7M) in 2008;
• Put Hr. 2,674,910 ($334K) on his 2009 tax returns as a gain on the sale of real estate.

One Mezhyhirya is never enough.

Christ is born. Let us praise Him! May the light of the Christmas Star shine a ray of hope for the happiness and good of every family. May the birth of God’s Son renew our faith and give us renewed strength to pass all the tests; to walk the road of life with dignity; to do good and hope for God’s grace. On the day of Christ’s birth, I wish that every family, in happiness and good health, may share the joy of our Savior’s birth. Christ has been born. Let us praise Him!

I wish that Yanukovych himself did some of the good things he wishes for. That way, he wouldn’t have to go through the embarrassment of moonlighting as a Santa for stabilnist.

The country that exported “Carol of the Bells” to Western civilization celebrates Christmas on January 7.



Christianity, imported to Ukraine in 988 A.D. and oppressed for most of the 20th century, has produced a Christmas tradition very different from that of Western civilization.

The rough equivalent of the West’s much-commercialized Christmas can be witnessed here on New Year’s Day, a counter-tradition cultivated by the atheist Soviet government. (Mind the purchasing power gap.)
