Rallies Against ‘Killer Kids’ as Raped/Burned Girl Struggles for Life

One of the three "killer kids" in the Mykolayiv rape-and-burn case happens to be the son of a former prosecutor. (Not according to the local prosecutor’s office, of course.) Another one is the son of the city’s former top official. Well, at least no denials here. Both had been initially released but taken back into custody later on as public pressure built up. In this video, the third suspect apparently takes the fall for his buddies.

In Ukraine, you can beat, rape, strangle, mangle, hunt, kill and even burn people and get away with it. If you have cash or connections, of course. If you don’t, you better get together to defend yourself like these ordinary people do.

Rich "killer kids," or mazhory as we call them in Ukraine, have created a cultural phenomenon far more prevalent than student rampages in the US. Maybe it's because here in Ukraine violent crime of this nature goes unpunished far more often than in the US?

By virtue of the almighty dollar, not probable cause or Miranda, the perpetrators either receive ridiculous sentences or avoid any jail time whatsoever. The list goes on and on.

Some US and EU tourists love Ukrainian oligarchs. But...not the way of life that oligarchy enforces on its aborigines, as opposed to its aficionados. If you know any such aficionados personally, show them this girl.

Now imagine she's your daughter.

Actions speak louder than words. As of today, Ukrainians remain largely lethargic, with just a few small protests here and there. Still, even in the most lethargic part of Ukraine, people already mince no words.

Man: It might be a bit rude, but let him drop dead!

Woman: Let him live like I do. No jobs. My son just came back from the army and there are no jobs.

She’s talking about the guy who’s got a job — the job. The guy who doesn’t show up for work until 11:00 a.m. and calls it a day at 4:15 p.m.

If only he could dig up some more of that magic enriched uranium at his marvelous Mezhyhirya ranch.

Wouldn’t that be a great way to enrich Ukraine’s democracy at the upcoming Nuclear Servility Summit in Seoul?

Another Mazhor Meets His Maker

Had he killed somebody else with his car, he would’ve most likely gotten away with it. But now that killed himself, he won’t kill anybody.

This latest fatality comes a mere six weeks after Hanna Herman, a fellow Party of Regions MP, lost her 17-year-old son in a similarly shocking accident.

A friend of the deceased says Viktor was neither an expert driver nor a drinker nor a reckless driver. The man doesn’t rule out the possibility that the accident may have been an assassination plot masterminded by enemies of MP Sivkovych, a former KGB operative.

MP Valeriy Bondyk (PRU) follows the same theory and believes that the car’s machinery may have been tampered with. Bondyk trusts the investigation to determine the cause of the accident and claims that due to built-in safeguards “Lexuses don’t burn.”

The deceased worked as a bailiff at the Ministry of Justice.

Herman’s Younger Son, 17, Dies in Car Accident (Updated)

Roman was a 17 year-old on his way from Odesa when his BMW-335 collided with a Mercedes truck. He died.

He was the younger son of MP Hanna Herman (PRU).

Accounts of the accident, which took place in Kirovohrad oblast, at 2:40 a.m. local time, vary. According to kirovograd.proua.com, Roman was driving the car, while, according to UNIAN, the driver was another person, an 20-year old. (In Ukraine, driving a car is illegal for people under the age of 18.)

In the Tabloid comments section, people express condolences, offer sympathy, blast the mazhory, argue with each other and ask questions: How could this kid travel to Odesa and back without parental supervision? Was he driving the car?

UPDATE
According to eyewitness accounts, the two had spent some time at a nearby restaurant, Gazeta.ua reports. The car was moving erratically, indicating that the driver might have been drunk. It even took the opposite lane before entering the right lane and gaining speed, says a local convenience store manager quoted by Gazeta.ua.

The driver was hospitalized and remains stable.

Another rich lawless mazhor rocks Kyiv. Luckily, no casualties this time. Police caught him in the nick of time. Actually, they say they spent the whole night chasing him.

At about 4:00 a.m. on May 15, he hits a road washer and starts arguing with its driver. Two guys, watching from a nearby car, decide to step in. He pulls a knife on them. They jump back into their car and speed away. He pursues them and hits them with his car. They hit him with plastic bullets. Finally, police arrive and use pepper spray to subdue him.

Artem Kryvoruchko is currently being charged with “disorderly conduct that put lives in danger.” But this may change. He happens to be the stepson of MP Ihor Lysov (PRU), a local businessman and former Kyiv mayor Omelchenko's deputy. Lysov did not immediately return phone calls. Neither did his assistant.

Later, in comments to Ukrayinska Pravda and Korrespondent, MP Lysov said this:

I haven’t made a single phone call and I won’t. He will be held responsible for his deeds. Let the court make the final decision.

The information I have is controversial. The incident was witnessed by many people, and the truth will be revealed at the court hearings.

To purify himself, Artem has to undergo the punishmet that the court will set, and it will be his lesson for the rest of his life.

Artem lives on his own and makes a living on his own. But I will do everything so that nothing of the kind will happen in the future.

Sounds too good to be true.

UPDATE
Kryvoruchko has been released on an order from Pechersk District Court in Kyiv, on condition of not leaving town. The prosecution plans to appeal.

Rich Lawless Kids Attack, Police Make No Arrests (Updated)

A group of four twenty-something men, two of them from an SUV, attacks two other men at a gas station at night for no particular reason. The attackers flash police badges and even Anti-corruption Committee IDs.



Not only do they attack the victims, but they also rob them.

A highway patrol arrives at the scene but, instead of arresting the attackers or requesting backup, simply tries to calm the situation.

On the day after, police reprimand the officers and promise to find the attackers. At the same time, police chiefs meet with the victims in private, promising to punish the officers, not the attackers, in exchange for the surveillance video.

As the story finds its way to Channel 1+1, the victims start getting calls from people who offer them money for refusal to press charges. The attackers hail from “noble families,” they add.

Later, the attackers, whom Ukrainians often refer to as mazhory (rich lawless kids), do the calling themselves. They issue threats of further violence and reassurances of zero jail time.

Channel 1+1 vows to assist the investigation.

P.S. A portrait of Yushchenko can be seen hanging on the police office wall, evoking memories of “The rich will help the poor” and “The bandits will sit in jail,” Yushchenko's 2004 campaign promises.

That's not to mention his party's 2007 parliamentary campaign slogan: “One law for all.”

Is it any coincidence that The Hon. Ihor Zvarych was having sex with a subordinate, one of the many victims of his sexual harassment, during a televised address by President Yushchenko?

So how long before Kyiv has its own gang of Dnipropetrovsk Maniacs?

UPDATE
Now that the whole country, including President Yushchenko, has seen that Channel 1+1 report, police have arrested two of the four attackers: “a student and a loader.”



The other two attackers, the ones who arrived in an SUV, remain at large.

The attackers' stories sound fishy. Attacker 1 says they wanted a “man-to-man fight” but “went a little too far.” Once the highway patrol arrived, they showed them gag-gift “Agent 007” IDs.

Attacker 2 says they wanted to protect a woman from being verbally abused, even though no woman can be seen on the surveillance video.

If convicted, the attackers face up to 5 years in prison. The big question is: Will they be convicted?
